Censoring a newspaper: Activity 2 Propaganda Click here to download the resources for this activity in Microsoft word format. They are adverts, photos, newspaper articles, and headlines. Also give the students a blank A3 sheet of paper. The task is to design and make the front page of a newspaper during wartime using the images and resources provided. The students should work in small groups, ideally groups of two. Ask the groups to decide if their paper is going to be from the perspective of honesty (no censorship - a terrible war) or from the perspective of not telling the whole truth (censored - a victorious war). They have to choose which adverts, images, articles etc. will show the perspective they have chosen. Ask them to design it first then stick the images down. If they wish, the students can write their own article and include it on the front page. Click on these images to see examples of newspapers that were made in a workshop at The British Library.
The groups show their front page. They explain what they did, what choices they made, what they wanted to portray and why they chose the things they did.
