The Jewish festival of Purim

Purim is a spring festival that is based on the book of Esther in the Hebrew Bible. It is a fun festival and a time where children are told the story of Purim and are expected to make lots of noise and dress up in fancy dress. It tells the story of Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus, Esther's uncle Mordechai, and the king's chief advisor Haman.

Children make noise makers called "graggers" and rattle them whenever they hear Haman's name. Whenever they hear Esther's name, they cheer and so they take full part in the story.
