How to do it :

Language can be modified for different types of instructions and this topic encourages children to experiment with various styles. It concentrates on the different kind of instructions that we come in contact with everyday and uses examples taken from a comic dated 1917.

Through the study of instructions from the past the children will compare how language and spelling has altered over the decades. They will examine instructions delivered using illustrations with captions, diagrams and recipes. They will be given an understanding of the authoritative tone of an instruction and the way language is used to deliver information and orders.
