Speaking and listening

Speaking - covers all elements of speaking. (1a,b,c,d,e,f,g)

Listening - pupils will concentrate on the main features of a talk, identify major elements of what is being said and ask questions and give relevant comments. (2a,b,f)

Group discussion and interaction - pupils will make different contributions to groups, adapting their speech accordingly take different views into account and summarise the most important points. (3a,b,c)

Language variation

Pupils will understand how language varies through attitudes to language use, the differences between speech and writing and the development of English over time. (6c,d,e)

Breadth of study

Speaking - promotes a range of purposes. For example describing, explaining and persuading in different context with a variety of audiences. (8a,b,c)

Group discussion and interaction - pupils will take different roles in groups. (10b)

Drama activities - pupils will improvise and work in role. (11a)


Reading

Understanding texts - covers most elements of understanding texts. (1a,b,c,d,e,g,h,,j,k)

Printed and ICT-based information texts

Pupils will select, compare, evaluate, distinguish between fact and fiction to develop their reading of ICT-based information texts. (1a,b,c)

Media and moving image texts

Pupils will explore how meaning is conveyed in texts that include print and images. (5a)

Writing

Composition - covers all elements of composition. (1a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,I,j,k,l,m,n,o)

Planning and drafting - covers all elements of planning and drafting. (2a,b,c)

Breadth of study

Covers all elements of breadth of study. For example: imagining, persuading, analysing writing for thinking and learning and for a variety of audiences. (9a,b,c,d,10,11)

Information and communication technology

Finding things out

Pupils will be systematic in considering the information they need, select appropriate sources and collect and evaluate collected data. (1a,b,c)

Developing ideas and making things happen

Pupils will develop and explore information. (2a)

Exchanging and sharing information

Pupils will know how to use e-mail to share and exchange information effectively. (3c)

History

Chronological understanding

Pupils will recognise and make appropriate use of dates, vocabulary and conventions that describe historical periods and the passing of time. (1)

Historical interpretation

Pupils will explore how and why historical events have been interpreted in different ways. (3a)

Historical enquiry

Pupils will identify a range of appropriate sources and evaluate the sources used. (4a,b)

Organisation and communication

Pupils will communicate their knowledge and understanding of history using a range of techniques. (5c)

Geography

Geographical enquiry and skills

Pupils will ask geographical questions, collect and record evidence, draw maps and plans at a range of scales and use atlases, globes and maps at a range of scales. (1a,f,2c,e)

Communicate in different ways using ICT. (2f)

Knowledge and understanding of places - pupils will describe the national, international and global context of the maps studied. (3c)
