English

Speaking and listening

Covers all elements of speaking, listening and group discussion and interaction. (1a,b,c,d,e,f,2a,b,c,d,e,f,3a,b,c,d,e)

Language variation

Pupils will have the opportunity to vary their speech in different circumstances and for different audiences according to context and purpose. (6a,c)

Breadth of study

Speaking - covers reading aloud, presenting and reciting for different audiences. (8a,b,c)

Listening - pupils will have the opportunity to listen to each other in groups. (9a,c)

Group discussion and interaction - provides purposes for making plans, sharing ideas, commenting and reporting (10a,b,c)

Drama activities - the pupils will develop skills in improvisation and responding to performances. (11a,c)


Reading

Reading for information - covers all elements of reading for information. For example, scanning, distinguishing between fact and fiction and understanding organisational features such as captions and illustrations (3a,b,c,d,e,f,g)

Literature - pupils will identify different ways of constructing sentences and their effects. (4b)

Non-fiction and non-literary texts

Pupils will use specialist vocabulary, evaluate different formats, layouts and presentational devices and engage with challenging and demanding subject matter with World War Two propaganda. (5a,g,f)

Breadth of study

Non-fiction and non-literary texts - provides a range of forms of writing. For example diaries, autobiographies, newspapers, magazines, advertisements, print and ICT based reference materials. (9a,b,c)

Writing

Composition - pupils will use and adapt the features of a form of writing and use features of layout, presentation and organisation effectively. (1d,e)

Planning and drafting - covers all elements of planning and drafting. (2a,b,c,d,e,f)

Breadth of study

Provides a range of purposes for writing which include imagining and exploring feelings, persuasion and reviews. (9a,b,c,d)

Pupils will use writing to help their thinking, investigating, organising and learning. (10)

Provides a range of forms of writing. For example, narratives, instructions, poems and reports (12)


Information and communication technology

Exchanging and sharing information

Pupils will use e-mail to share and exchange information. (3a)

Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses
Covers all elements of reviewing, modifying and evaluating work. (4a,b,c)

Breadth of study

Covers all elements of breadth of study. (5a,b,c)


History

Chronological understanding

Pupils will place events and objects into correct periods of time and use vocabulary and dates relating to the passing of time. (1a,b)

Historical interpretation

Pupils will be taught to recognise that the past is represented and interpreted in different ways, and give reasons for this. (3)

Organisation and communication

Pupils will recall, select and communicate their knowledge and understanding of history in a variety of ways. (5a,b,c)


Geography

Geographical enquiry

Pupils will be encouraged to ask geographical questions and communicate in ways appropriate to the task and audience. (1a,e)

Pupils will use atlases, globes, maps and plans at range of scales, draw plans and maps at a range of scales and use ICT to help in geographical investigations and decision making. (2c,d,e,f,g)

Art and design

Exploring and developing ideas

Covers all elements of recording, questioning and collecting materials. (1a,b,c)

Investigating and making art, craft and design

Pupils will use a variety of methods and approaches to communicate observations, ideas and feelings. (2c)

Pupils will understand the roles and purposes of artists, craftspeople and designers working in different times and cultures. (4c)
