Wax Tablet: Background Wax Tablet Click on the image to see enlargments About 1,800 years ago a pupil made an attempt on this wax tablet to copy-write these lines of Greek text from the master's writing at the top. The beeswax is very soft and indentations can be made with slight pressure. It is however, still quite difficult to produce smooth writing on this type of material. Parallel lines were marked on the tablet to guide the pupil who used it. However, the child still found it hard to write neatly on the wax. Wax tablets are a good medium for learning to write. Mistakes can be erased easily with a warm stylus. |
