Paper
Strip Book: Activity
1
Make
a paper strip book.
This is a very unusual book.
It does not have a beginning or an end.
Write a set of class rules
and display them in a paper strip book. Try and make them positive such
as "Please remember to be polite" rather than "Don't be
rude!"
To make your own book, follow
the set of instructions below.

1.
Cut up some fairly thin paper into 1cm by 40 cm strips.
You could use longer strips if you wish. Cut one strip per rule,
sentence etc. Try and do quite a few. The more strips there are,
the more interesting the book will look.
2.
Write one rule on each paper strip. Leave a 5-10cm space on the
left hand side. This is for attaching everything together
|
 |
|
3.
Collect the end of the pieces together one by one and
then bunch them up. Finally, fix them with string or sticky tape.
|
|
4.
Make a handle out of kitchen roll centre squashed together
so that the opening in the middle is thin. Cover it in papier mache
so to make it stiff. Make sure the opening is large enough for you
to fit the ends of the paper strips inside.
|

|
 |
5.
Push the bound end of the strips into the handle and
fix with sticky tape. Cover the handle with string or ribbon. Make
sure that the strips are stuck inside the handle. Shake firmly to
make sure.
|
|
6.
Finally, shake all the strips down over the handle, so
that the paper strips stick out at the top of the holder.

Test your paper strip book
Do you have a different sentence,
rule etc. every time you choose a strip?
Can you predict which sentence
or rule you will read?
Are the strips long enough
or are they too long?
What could you do to improve
your paper strip book if you made it again?
