Speaking and listening

Covers most of the elements of speaking and listening, individually and in groups. (1a,b,d,e, 2,b,d,f, 3a,d,e)

Language variations - Pupils will recognise the differences between speech and writing and the development of English, including over time and the impact of electronic communication on written language. (6d,f)

Breadth of study

Speaking - promotes speaking for a purpose. Including, describing, explaining, persuading, arguing and presenting to different audiences. (8a,b,c)

Listening - pupils will have experience of a range of listening opportunities. (9a,c)

Group discussion and interaction - pupils will be encouraged to take different roles in group discussions and have opportunities to explore and hypothesise. (10a,b)

English literary heritage

Pupils will be taught how texts have influential and significant characteristics. (2a,b)

Pupils will explore how texts have improved their appeal and importance over time. (2c)

Texts from different culture and traditions

Pupils will be taught to understand the significance of the matter and the language and make comparisons between texts from different cultures. (3a,e)

Media and moving image

Pupils will be encouraged to look at how form layout and presentation contribute to the overall effect of the text. (5a)

Writing

Composition - pupils will use a range of techniques and ways of organising and structuring material to convey ideas and themes. (1d)

Present material clearly using appropriate layout, illustrations and organisation. (1h)

Planning and redrafting - pupils will analyse critically their own and others' writing. (2c)

Handwriting and presentation - encourages the full use of presentational devices where appropriate. (5c)

Breadth of study

Pupils will be required to imagine, explore and create aesthetic and literary uses of language. (9a, b) Writing will be used for thinking and learning. (10)

Design and technology

Developing, planning and communicating ideas

Pupils will use the Words Alive! website to identify relevant sources of information. (1a)

Working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products

Pupils will be expected to select appropriate tools and equipment to form products safely. They will join and combine materials to make single products. (2a,b,d)

Covers all elements of evaluation and criteria (3a,b,c)

Art and design

Exploring and developing ideas

Pupils will record experiences and discuss critically to help them develop independent work. (1a,b)

Investigating art, craft and design

Pupils will investigate and manipulate materials, apply and extend their experience of materials and processes and experiment with methods and approaches. (2a,b,c)

Breadth of study

Pupils will use a range of materials and investigate art, craft and design in a variety of styles individually and in collaboration with others. (5b,c)

History

Chronological understanding

Pupils will be taught to recognise and make use of vocabulary that describe historical periods. (1)

Historical interpretation

Pupils will explore some of the different ways the past is represented.

Organisation and communication

Using a range of techniques including the Words Alive! website, pupils will communicate their knowledge and understanding. (5c)

Information and communication technology

Developing ideas and making things happen

Pupils will solve problems and explore information using the Words Alive! website. (2a)

Exchanging and sharing information

Covers a range of elements. For example interpreting information, using a range of ICT tools and e-mail. (3a,b,c)

Breadth of study

Work with others to explore a variety of ICT tools in a variety of contexts. (5b)
