English

Speaking and listening

Speaking - covers all the elements of speaking and listening, individually and in groups.

Breadth of study

Speaking - covers telling stories, reading aloud, describing events and speaking to different people.

Listening - includes opportunities for listening to each other and adults.

Group discussion and interaction - provides purposes for making plans, sharing ideas, commenting and reporting.

Reading

Reading for information - covers organisational features such as captions and illustrations.

Language structure and variation - covers characteristics of different types of text.

Non-fiction and non-literary texts - uses ICT based information text.

Writing

Handwriting and presentation - encourages clear and neat presentation in order to communicate meaning effectively.

Language structure - encourages composition of own texts and consideration of how word choice and order are crucial to meaning.

Breadth of study

Promotes writing for a purpose. Including communication to others, creation of imaginary worlds, exploration of experience and organisation and explanation of information.

Design and technology

Developing planning and communicating ideas

Plan and develop ideas and communicate using a variety of methods including drawing, making models and talking about their ideas.

Working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products

Pupils will use a variety of skills to make a book. For example: measuring, marking out, cutting, assembling, joining and using simple finishing techniques that improves the appearance of the product.

Evaluating process and products

Encourages pupils to talk about their ideas and say what they like and dislike.

Knowledge and understanding of materials and components

Pupils will explore the working characteristics of materials.

Breadth of study

Pupils will complete practical tasks that develop a range of techniques, skill processes and knowledge.

Pupils will design and make assignments using a range of materials that can be put together to make products.

Art and design

Exploring and developing ideas

Pupils will ask and answer questions about the starting points for their work and develop their ideas.

Investigating art, craft and design

Covers all elements of investigation of art, craft and design.

Evaluating and developing work

Covers all elements of evaluating and developing work.

Knowledge and understanding

Pupils will be taught about visual and tactile elements and the material and processes used in making art, craft and design.

Breadth of study

The pupils will work on their own and collaborate with others.

Pupils will investigate different kinds of art, craft and design through reference to the collections of The British Library.

History

Historical interpretation

Pupils will explore some of the different ways the past is represented.

Historical enquiry

Covers all elements of historical enquiry.

Organisation and communication

Pupils will use ICT to develop their knowledge of history.

Information and communication technology

Finding things out

Pupils will gather information from the Words Alive! website, retrieve information that has been stored.

Breadth of study

The pupils will explore a variety of ICT tools and talk about the uses of ICT inside and outside school.
